Celebrating an inspirational life

In remembrance of our close friend Julie Felix, a human rights activist, world famous singer and writer of folk music, particularly protest songs.

Julie died peacefully in hospital on Sunday 22nd March, Mothers Day. Apart from her fame as a TV, radio and stage star, she was an intense supporter of the underdog and had a lifetime interest in protesting against war and in promoting human rights. She was a close friend of mine and of Colin Green and a great supporter of IMET2000’s work. Julie helped us raise thousands of pounds to support Ebenezer children’s home by holding concerts and often got her friends to join her. Whenever Colin asked her to perform at one of his major fundraising events she always said yes and entertained the guests with a mixture of fun, lament, protest and love songs. In addition she introduced Colin to many celebrities in the music business who then often supported IMET2000 generously. Julie continued to perform solo even as recently as February this year and at the remarkable age of 81 years her voice and professionalism was still extraordinary. We will always remember Julie’s energy, enthusiasm and sense of fun and her amazing ability to lift her audience’s spirits.

We are proud to have earned her friendship and her loyal support. As an ardent women’s right supporter Julie and I often talked about how she would like to help support women in Uganda and because of this Colin and I would now like to set up an annual IMET2000 Julie Felix Memorial Scholarship in Maternal Health which will be open to young doctors, midwives or nurses in Uganda.

Julie will be sadly missed.
