Garvin and the team at Herona Hospital would like to extend their “Special appreciation” to the Uganda National Transfusion Services (UNTS), Nakasero blood bank. Due to the covid19 pandemic, like in many countries, the government introduced total lockdown. This has made blood donation extremely difficult, but despite this UNTS has at all times made sure blood is available to Herona Hospital. In this period the hospital has never referred out a patient for blood transfusion services or registered a maternal death including those suffering with severe bleeding before and after delivery. The service UNTS provides is vitally important especially in lockdown, with absolutely no transportation available other than our new ambulance local people would have no access to blood. We are extremely grateful.
